Denise Bell-Stacey, for the group, writes:

The Teignbridge Access Group read with interest the contents of Anne Marie Morris's Teignbridge Matters advertisement, especially the section on Newton Abbot. While the group agrees that anything that enhances the look of the town is good, it is not so good for those who have mobility issues.

It would be nice to think that everyone is mobile and can easily get into and out of the new look areas but, sadly, this is not so.

For many this paved area has made access to the town a nightmare. the town is now ringed by car parks, but how do those with extra needs get from those car parks?

Many now have to struggle, in constant pain, with walking aids, constantly seeking places to sit down for a few mintues' rest before moving on.

Unless you are disabled, it is natural not to even think about all the extra issues that occur and have to overcome during the course of a visit into town or anywhere.

Perhaps Anne Marie would care to attend one of our meetings to discuss problems faced by having a disability in a world that often does not acknowledge that some of us do have different needs.
