VOLUNTEERS are being invited to help out at the second gardening afternoon aimed at improving Penn Inn roundabout in Newton Abbot.

Organised by Newton Abbot Community Interest Company, the programme of improvements continues today starting at 2pm.

The first phase is to plant a bed of exotic plants donated by Plant World.

Following on from the creation of the first flowerbed, the CIC plans to plant trees, shrubs and bulbs between now and spring 2019.

John Pike, vice chairman of the CIC commented: ‘Our ambition is to make Penn Inn roundabout a safe and attractive public space.

‘We have been delighted by the enthusiastic response we have already received to our plans.

‘We are already working with a team of volunteers but would love to hear from anyone else who would like to get involved.’

The CIC is also offering sponsorship opportunities for local business and organisations, as well as the chance for members of the public to sponsor a shrub for £5.

For Thursday’s volunteer afternoon, gardeners are asked to bring gloves and a garden fork if they have them.

The CIC is also keen to hear the views of local people regarding their plans for the roundabout.
