County Cllr Jerry Brook, Chudleigh Rural Division, writes:Re Haldon Hill closure last Thursday:
I am really proud of everyone who responded so quickly to the crisis last Thursday night due to the snow and ice on the A38.
The statutory services and voluntary agencies were quick off the mark and did a tremendous job. But the real stars were the local people.
On behalf of Devon County Council I would like to pay particular tribute and thanks to the town councillors and their staff and the many local volunteers who responded so amazingly to open up the town hall and offer shelter, hot drinks and food to stranded motorists.
Local traders opened up specially and many ordinary residents were quick to come forward with offers to share their homes or do what ever they could to help.
All in all, the town can take great credit from the way it responded to the incident.
