IF a large housing development is built behind Apple Tree Close, Chudleigh Knighton, it would enable the funding of a sports field, changing rooms and the extension of the pre-school.

Marcel Venn, group land and planning director of the Inox Group, told last week's Hennock Parish Council monthly meeting that he had spoken to a Teignbridge Council planning officer who confirmed that 12 affordable units would be supported on the site.

He told councillors that he wanted to discuss the matter with the parish council to establish whether there was an appetite for a development of 24 houses – 12 affordable and 12 private – and/or an appetite for a larger development of 50 houses of which half would be affordable.
