UNION bosses have announced that the planned three-day bus strike in Devon has been suspended after a new pay offer was put on the table.
RMT has confirmed that Stagecoach south west has put forward new pay proposals which will now be put to members.
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: ‘The union is able to confirm that new pay proposals have been tabled by management following intense negotiations.
‘After careful consideration and noting this development, the union’s National Executive Committee has decided to suspend the planned industrial action.
‘The union will now conduct a referendum on the new proposals in the coming days.’
Strike action which had been planned for Friday October 13, Tuesday October 17 and Monday October 30 has been suspended and RMT members have been instructed to work as normal.
Mr Cash added: ‘This shows yet again what can be achieved when trade union members stand together.
‘It is a tribute to our members that the union has been able to make Stagecoach South West come back to the table with an improved offer.’
The dispute involves over 800 bus drivers, cleaners and engineering grades at the Exeter, Torquay and Barnstaple garages.
More than 78 per cent of RMT members’ voted for strike action whilst nearly 90 per cent voted for action short of a strike in a recent ballot.
