A plan to build five large detached houses on pastureland at Brimley Grange has been refused by Teignbridge Council planners.

Several councillors doubted that the numerous mature trees growing round the site boundary would survive any house-building for long.

Objector Mike Tulett told members of the development control committee on Tuesday that the trees provided a haven for wildlife and were enjoyed by residents and walkers on the Templer Way.

An oak tree had been already been felled near the site entrance during the nesting season, he said.
