Mr R J Cole, of Greenhill Road, Kingsteignton, writes:
You don't have to be an expert to know we already have a traffic problem in and around Kingsteignton.
It is a daily occurrence for traffic to be queuing from Vicarage Hill down Greenhill Way and right into Newton and this journey can take you as long as 15 minutes or more to cover two miles.
This is also the same going from Newton to Kingsteignton.
Added to this is the massive backlog of traffic coming from the centre and top of the town along Exeter Road, Broadway and Fore Street.
Drivers are now using the Kingsteignton retail car parks as park and ride spots and this adding to the ever-increasing congestion with drivers queuing to find a parking space.
Let's not overlook the other point that causes major congestion and that is the buses stopping outside Lidl. Yet another oversight by planners at County Hall highways in failing to place a bus layby outside the store.
Additional pedestrian crossings or roundabouts will only add to the ever-increasing traffic problems in the area and if it did go ahead, let's hope it is not like the planning error at the top of the town by the Ten Tors inn. Traffic is coming to a standstill due to lorries struggling to get round the new roundabout and bus stops in the wrong place. That was outstanding planning, I?must say.
It would appear that Teignbridge has now given a free-for-all building plan for the area with no regard to what anybody has to say or to the infrastructure required to handle the additional houses.
I?understand they are also planning to take away a farmer's land and livelihood under a compulsory order to build more houses.
I believe Nick Davis, head of planning, says he is struggling to find a reason for refusing more building. Could this be because he is not living in Kingsteignton and that all the additional building and increased traffic will never affect him?
It might just be an experience or an eye-opening to all planners and highway engineers to venture out of their offices once in a while to see just what the people of Kingsteignton have to contend with seven days a week.
