A McDonald’s and Costa Coffee could be making its way to Haldon Hill if planners give the green-light.
Plans to build the outlets at Haldon Hill Services on the A38 along with drive-through lanes and a car park have been lodged with Teignbridge Council.
The proposed site, which is currently derelict, lies adjacent to the Route 5 Diner and near the Esso petrol station and Spar shop.
TRM Land Promotions Roadside, which submitted the documents, hope the venture will create some 83 jobs.
A report sent to the council says: ‘The proposal will have a positive impact on the local economy through facilitating benefical and meaningful employment.
‘The proposed McDonald’s will provide approximately 65 new permanent jobs, all of which are likely to be taken up by people who live locally.
‘Furthermore, the Costa will provide approximately 18 new full/part time jobs.’
The Notthingmanshire-based developers sent the plans to Teignbridge Council on September 21.
The report concludes: ‘We have demonstrated that there are no adverse impacts that would significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits brought about as a result of this proposal.
‘The presumption in favour of sustainable development applies in this case, and as such, there are strong grounds to justify the grant of planning permission to enable this immediate economic investment in to this area of Teignbridge to proceed.’
A decision on the planning application is expected on November 17.
