TEIGNBRIDGE Council and the National Custom and Self-Build Association played hosts to representatives of councils across the south west last week to share practical lessons on how they can help to facilitate more self and custom built homes.

The district authority and the association held the workshop at the council’s Forde House, Newton Abbot, headquarters, designing it to help other councils understand the criteria and learn from their experiences.

Last year Teignbridge was one of 11 places in the country to be chosen as a Government Right to Build Vanguard. It received £100,000 funding from the Department of Communities and Local Government to continue its work in bringing forward sites and help people secure a suitable plot of land to design and build their own home.
