A BMW dealership is bidding to open a new car showroom in Kingskerswell with Teignbridge council planners expected to decide the scheme’s fate next month..
Ocean has submitted plans for the BMW and Mini dealership with new showrooms, workshop and MOT station, customer and staff parking, an area for use vehicle display and compound storage at the three-acre site at Coventy Farm Industrial Estate in Torquay Road.
Architects Taylor Design have produced plans for the site which they say will result in a ‘high quality of work of contemporary design reflecting the corporate image of the BMW brand’.
The site has a number of existing buildings, some of which are planned to be demolished.
Because of the steep slope on the site, the building has been split over three levels with the focus being on providing level access into the showroom for customers.
The building will provide the showroom at the front, offices and staff facilities and aftersales workshop, body shop and deliveries and parts storage at the back.
On the ground floor will be the workshop, body shop and storage.
This means all heavy goods vehicles will have easier access onto the site off Torquay road.
On the first floor will be the BMW and Mini showroom entrance and customer parking.
The fully glazed shopfront faces southwest on to Torquay Road and has been designed to provide an ‘aesthetically pleasing exterior’ which aims to ‘entice, intrigue and welcome’ customers.
The new building will be visible from the South Devon Highway which architects say it ‘vital’ to Ocean.
Branded signage have been positioned to ensure ‘optimum visibility’ to passing traffic on the A380.
The second floor will house additional office space, archive storage, staff facilities and plant room.
