RESIDENTS in Teignbridge are being urged to have their say as the district authority reviews its Local Plan this summer.

A major review of the planning blueprint, which was created in 2014, is to be carried out to make sure it is up-to-date and reflects the needs of people in the area.

Members are hoping the review will offer them a chance to extend the plan period to 2040 – not 2033 as previously planned.

They also want to amend the plan so it reflects different trends in the district, update evidence and make changes to stay in line with laws and national policies.

A report, which went before Monday’s overview and scrutiny meeting, said the consultation was a chance to ‘explore what the public and stakeholders think about the challenges facing the district and identify the most suitable and sustainable approach to addressing them.’

The documents, which were approved for consultation on Monday, will now go to the council’s executive meeting before being put out for the public to comment on.

It is expected that the consultation period will run for eight weeks – from May 21 until July 16.

Hard copies of the documents – which aren’t available until May 21 – will be available at libraries in Newton Abbot, Kingsteignton, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Bovey Tracey, Chudleigh and the Devon Mobile Library.

The papers can also be viewed at Teignbridge Council’s headquarters in Forde House, off the Brunel Industrial Estate in Newton Abbot.
