A PLAQUE in memory of former Newton Abbot mayor Di Nicholls was unveiled in the town centre this week, above.

Current mayor Ann Jones was joined by fellow town councillors for the event at the Golden Lion Square on Wednesday afternoon.

Ms Nicholls, an ex-town, district and county councillor, died in August last year – just a few months short of her 100th birthday.

Dubbed ‘a true lady of the people, Ms Nicholls was also an honorary freeman of Newton Abbot and served as mayor from 1985 until 1986.
