The University of Plymouth has been challenged 'to do the right thing' and put £1m from the sale of Newton Abbot's former agricultural college into the Seale-Hayne Educational Trust.
Ian Goodwin, chairman of the Seale-Hayne Futures Group, has said that having profited from the college – which was set up as a charity – the least the university can do is plough some of the money into the trust.
'They have taken this charity, stripped it of its assets and spent the money on themselves.
'It would be nice if the university said here is another £1m for the educational trust. I would be very surprised if they do it. I would have thought they've made £8m-10m – maybe more. They could do the right thing, it would not hurt them to boost the Seale-Hayne charity from the money they have made from selling its assets.'
