POLICE have pledged to continue to crack down on illegal raves after more than 1,500 people flocked to a site on Dartmoor.

Officers managed to close down the planned rave on Sunday afternoon by securing the area near the Forestry Commission-owned Bellever Woods at Postbridge.

Roads around the site had been congested as an estimated 500 vehicles arrived overnight.

Police set up roadblocks in the area, turning away several hundred people throughout Sunday.

Residents living around Bellever Woods and Widecombe had raised the alarm, prompting police to invoke anti-rave legislation.
