THE alleged abduction of a child in Newton Abbot today, April 14, led to a police manhunt with support from the force helicopter.

The situation developed at approximately 2pm with the aircraft hovering low over parts of the town.

As officers searched a residential area a man carrying a young child was seen approaching a house in Bradley Barton.

Officers took custody of both and the search was called off.
