FOUR occupants of a flat in Newton Abbot have been warned that police will monitor their every move until an application for a closure order is heard on Monday.Dawn Lewis, the owner of Flat 4, 89 Wolborough Street, argued at a hearing on Wednesday that the order should not be made, as she needed more time to get a solicitor and sort out legal aid.Opposing the order, she added she needed time to find somewhere else she and her pet rats could stay if the closure order is granted.Exeter Magistrates heard that the alleged 'appalling' anti-social behaviour of Mrs Lewis, 45, Jamie Ryan, 26, Zoe Radford, 23, and Daniel White 19, had caused considerable suffering to other residents at the property. Mr Ryan said one of the group wore two hearing aids which was why the music was loud.James Taghdissian, counsel for Devon and Cornwall Police, said that the day the closure notice was served on Monday a complaint was made about shouting and loud music.'In the words of the complainant she "had never heard the music so loud... it was a rebellion against the notice". Clearly this behaviour will continue until this order is made,' he said. Magistrates agreed to adjourn the case until Monday at 10am at Exeter Magistrates' Court.Mr Taghdissian warned: 'The police are going to be monitoring everything that goes on at that flat. If we hear so much as a bat's squeak above what is acceptable noise, that will form part of our case. 'There is no doubt about the level of suffering that the residents have experienced.'
