ORGANISERS have announced plans for a Newton Abbot protest in light of the death of George Floyd, whose killing in the US has prompted protests across the world.
Plans to gather in solidarity with other protests are due to start at 1pm on Saturday at the Newton Abbot clock tower.
Attendees have been asked to bring whistles and drums and organisers have arranged to play audio of Martin Luther King Jr’s famous ‘I have a dream’ speech.
The protest will be socially distanced with chalk markers on the ground to help attendees keep their distance.
One of the organisers, Jon McKenzie, said: ‘The impact of that horrible video showing George Floyd’s death has really hit people emotionally.
’This gathering will give people an opportunity to express their support for the Floyd family, while socially distancing.’
