EMBATTLED Newton Abbot MP Anne Marie Morris has been given the early Christmas present she was desperately hoping for... restoration of the Tory party whip.

The ostracised member was welcomed back to the fold today – just 24 hours after telling the Mid-Devon Advertiser of her wishes for a reconciliation.

Confirmation of her return to ‘the team’ came this afternoon with an announcement from the Chief Whip’s office.

She told the Mid-Devon Advertiser just after 3pm: ‘I would like to take this opportunity to apologise again for using such inappropriate and offensive language.

‘The whip has been returned to me today. I feel proud and privileged to be a Conservative Member of Parliament and I will continue to serve my community and my country to the best of my ability.’

The MP’s political fortunes took a nosedive in the summer when she let slip the racist N word at a Brexit meeting in London. The infamous ‘woodpile’ quote was in reference to the UK quitting the EU without a deal.

Since then the verbal blunder has cost her dear with the party whip being withdrawn and a heap of condemnation from former party allies, political opponents and the press.

Only yesterday, she told her local newspaper that she would dearly love to see the suspension lifted.

‘It would have been nice to have an early Christmas present or New Year’s gift. I want to be a member of the team again,’ said the sidelined member just hours before this afternoon’s news broke.

The banished member had repeatedly apologised for her ‘inadvertent’ choice of words back in the summer.

She’s been anxious to point out that the cold-shouldering had not affected her ability to do the job - but she had not relished being on the outside looking in.

‘I still love what I’m doing. Having the whip returned would be even better. It’s really up to Theresa May. It’s her decision. And she can only do that when she has the time and space to it. She does have a lot on at the moment,’ the MP told the Mid-Devon Advertiser before today’s revelation that she is no longer out in the cold.
