CAMPAIGN group Newton Says No came out on top in the Ambrook ward with member Richard Daws bagging the seat.

Cllr Daws – who scooped 990 votes – will be joined on the authority by veteran Independent Mary Colclough, who picked up 848 votes.

Conservative member Dennis Smith, who has served on the council for 12 years, lost his seat to Cllr Daws.

Cllr Daws revealed he was feeling ‘very confident’ that his three other colleagues could claim seats on the authority.

He explained that he’d work hard to remove the controversial NA3 development – which includes building thousands of homes at Wolborough – from the Local Plan.

Cllr Colclough, who has been on Teignbridge for 28 years, said she was absolutely ecstatic to be be able to serve for another four years.

Defeated Dennis Smith said he had plenty of things to be cracking on with now he is no longer a councillor.
