RECENTLY elected Newton Abbot Town Councillor has today earned himself a seat on Teignbridge Council. A by-election was held on the same day as the County Council elections after district member Judy Grainger announced she would be stepping down. Rob, who joined the town council in 2016, went head-to-head with fellow town councillor and last year’s mayor Liz Roberts. After bagging the Newton Bushell post, Rob said he is still getting to grips with the town council but is looking forward to a challenge and ‘good debate.’ Around 30 per cent of people in the ward came out yesterday and voted. Rob said: ‘I want to do good for the people and make Newton Abbot a better place.’ Mr Hayes said he is going to go back to basics and sort out public toilets, crack down on anti-social behaviour and graffiti.
