NATIONAL park officials have said 'stupid' speeds of almost 150mph are being recorded on Dartmoor's roads despite the 40mph limit.

The startling figure came to light on Tuesday, after a pony was killed by an early morning hit-and-run driver at Haytor.

The only clue found at the scene was a black wing mirror.

Farmer Laura Colwill and her family were left to haul the bloodied carcass into the back of their Land Rover and carry it off for rendering.
