A popular village show celebrates its 23rd year this weekend.

The Bishopsteignton Community Centre will be packed full of flowers, fruit, vegetables, floral art, cookery, handicrafts and photography.

It is one of the highlights of the weekend calendar, and the exhibits are predicted to inspire and amaze.

The show is open to the public to look around from 2pm to 5pm tomorrow, September 1, and 11am to 4pm on Sunday, September 2. Admission is 50p for adults and children are free. Cream teas and a selection of home-made cakes will be available on both days, along with ploughman’s lunches on Sunday.

The Show is put on by a voluntary committee, chaired by Roy Halsey, who said: ’This should be a particularly interesting show. Growing flowers, fruit and vegetables has certainly been a challenge this year, with the heavy snow followed by such a hot, dry summer. It will be fascinating to see what arrives when we open the doors to our exhibitors.

’What’s lovely about our show is that there really is something for everyone. With classes for children and plenty of handicrafts and cookery options, it’s not all about gardening.’

The Village Show receives a lot of support from local businesses and individuals, who either sponsor some of the divisions or provide prizes for the annual grand raffle.
