VILLAGERS in Denbury are set to see the return of the post office thanks to church leaders.

The parochial church council has stepped in and offered the use of Denbury Church Cottage as an outreach post office.

Services are set to start from April 11 and will open every Tuesday morning for two hours.

The previous sub post office, which doubled as the village shop, closed when post master Alan Wood retired last year.

After extensive negotiations, the Post Office was unable to agree on a suitable new site.

But the church council of St Mary the Virgin came forward to offer the use of the cottage which is next to the church lychgate entrance to the churchyard and is used daily for church and village activities.

Churchwarden Michael Sutherland-Cook said: ‘After some BT and minor electrical works, post office services will return to Denbury.

‘Villages will be able to transact usual post office services and purchase greeting cards and stationery.’

An envelope ‘first day cover’ will be available to celebrate the return of the post office to the village.

It will be open from 9am to 11am every Tuesday.
