THE Shaldon actress who died in a Boxing Day car crash has won an award for a film made just four weeks before her death.

Helen Kirk, the namesake of the children's and arts charity, The Helen Foundation, was part of a team that has won first prize in the drama section of the National Association of Student Television Awards. Miss Kirk, 24, took a lead role in Milk, a seven-minute short film, made by the University of Bournemouth. It is a silent comedy accompanied by music to match the mood and comic content. She intended to add the piece to her portfolio for future meetings with directors and casting-agents. Her father Roger Kirk said: 'It is a piece of work that showed her physical acting skills to the full, unable, by the nature of the piece, to use her voice as an instrument. 'This was an excellent challenge to Helen, who told us that it had been extremely professionally directed and produced, with a very hard-working and imaginative team of young film-makers.' The film was posthumously dedicated to Miss Kirk. Dawlish Community College and Teignmouth Community College have raised more than £1,000 by holding non-uniform days to raise funds for The Helen Foundation.
