AN elderly resident writes:
At last the plot on the corner of Bank Street and market Street has been bought for the good of the town.
If ever an opportunity of such magnificence arose, this is it for the re-instatement of the Priest's House that once stood across the road from there.
Amid quite a lot of ballyhoo, this building was dismantled. Each and every brick, stone and tile was numbered, some photographed and all charted for future reconstruction.
There was a great deal of ceremony about the way these pieces were transported to one of the council's storage depots.
We were told through this newspaper that a suitable site would be found for the construction of the building.
Now at last it has been found, within a few yards of the original place where it was built all those years ago.
But where are the stones today? I doubt if there is a single councillor past or present who can answer that question. Why not?
If ever there was a case for the district auditor to investigate, this is it. It is almost on a par with those missing paintings from Forde House that were apparently found in various councillors' houses. Or have they conveniently forgotten about that?
Somewhere in the architect's department there must be detailed records of all this; if not heads should roll.THIS AND OTHER LETTERS ONLINE
