PARENTS who take their children out of school during term time could be hit with a £2,500 fine and sent to prison for three months, writes John Ware.
The new much tougher penalties have been lambasted as draconian by Teignmouth councillors, who maintain a more conciliatory approach should be adopted.
In a letter to parents, Devon County Council warns that, from September 1, schools will be unable to authorise absences during term periods.
