The RSPCA is appealing for information after a pet cat was shot by an airgun in Newton Abbot.

Lightning, a three-year-old black-and-white long-haired cat, was shot between 11am and 6.10pm on Monday, August 16, near her home in Silverwood Avenue.

'The first we knew there was a problem we discovered her in one of the spare bedrooms lying on the bed, bleeding on to the bedclothes,' said owner Allan Sparey.

He rushed her straight to Kingsteignton veterinary practice. Later that evening his suspicions that someone had taken a potshot at her were confirmed.
