Buckfastleigh residents opposed to plans for a waste recycling plant at Whitecleave Quarry are set to join a protest march in Plymouth next week.

MVV Environmental (Devonport) Ltd wants planning permission for a power-from-waste incinerator in the city.

The proposed Teignbridge facility would process ash from the plant but members of the Buckfastleigh Forum are concerned about toxic pollutants being transported into town.

A residents' group in Plymouth is attempting to halt the incinerator plans on the grounds that emissions could be harmful.

The march at noon on Saturday, September 10, will see both groups joining forces in a route that will take them from Plymouth Guildhall to the Barbican.

The theme being adopted for the event is piracy, a move the organisers said reflected the incinerator plan and the start of the America's cup on the same day from Plymouth.

Another march could be taking place in Buckfastleigh on September 17, although details have yet to be confirmed.
