HOMELESS people in Teignbridge are being helped thanks to a £10,000 donation to a charity which provides advice, support, grants and deposit funding.

The Deposit Protection Service (DPS) has given the cash donations to Plymouth Access to Housing (PATH) to support its work helping individuals with money for tenancy deposits.

The DPS was set up in 2014 to assist charities which support the homeless and those who need help to live independently.

Daren King, head of tenancy deposit protection at the DPS, said: ‘PATH is a great charity that provides really important support to homeless people throughout Plymouth, Teignbridge and Exeter.

‘The DPS has given almost £200,000 to housing charities since the launch of our fund and we’re really happy to be able to assist such crucial work across the country.’

PATH provides advice, support, grants and deposit funding to help local homeless and vulnerable people access housing.

The DPS donations will help the charity provide individuals with money for their tenancy deposits so they can access private rented housing.

Rebecca Saxton, manager at PATH, said: ‘As the nights become colder, the threat that homelessness presents becomes more severe and the support we provide becomes even more important.

‘The DPS donation will ensure that even more people in Teignbridge, Exeter and Plymouth have safe, warm places to stay over winter.’

Charities focused on the housing sector can apply for funds via the DPS website at www.depositprotection.com/charity.

Applications for the next round of awards must be submitted by December 31 2016.
