Teignmouth Hospital League of Friends has raised more than £2 million in its existence.
The cash has paid for a host of improvements and equipment, and now the league has embarked on its most ambitious project to date – the provision of a new physiotherapy and occupational therapy unit.
Work is well under way and the league will fork out £605,090 – more than 80 per cent of the total cost.
'We had built up a considerable war chest, and wanted to spend it on a major scheme. The existing physio facilities are sub-standard, and when we suggested constructing a new unit, the health authority agreed,' explained Colin Ingram, publicity officer for the league.
'But only on condition that we funded the major part of the project.
