A new £450,000 children's centre on the Highweek Primary School site in Newton Abbot officially opened its doors on Tuesday.
The extension to the front of the school is part of a multi-million pound investment by Devon County Council to provide 43 such facilities countywide.
The centres provide coordinated services and support for children aged up to five and their families.
Devon's executive councillor for children's services, John Smith, said: 'There is overwhelming evidence to demonstrate that it's in the early years of a child's life where patterns are set for the future.
'Every parent naturally wants the best for their child and we are determined to help and support them in ensuring their children get the best possible start in life.'
The centre is being managed by Barnado's South West.
Manager Helen Huntley said: 'The team is delighted with the fantastic building and the opportunity it has given us to deliver a range of services to children under five and their families both from the children's centre building and in outreach venues across the town.
'The building has enabled us to extend our services to include drop-in child health clinics, parenting craft and ante-natal appointments, healthy living and smoking cessation sessions.'
Last year a survey of more than 1,300 users across Devon revealed more than nine out of ten young families were happy with the support they received from the county's children's centres.
Ward County Cllr Anne Fry said: 'I am really pleased that our new children's centre is linked with Highweek because the ethos of the school is to work with all members of the community and this partnership will only enhance the work we are all doing with children and families.'
