PUPILS of Bovey Tracey Primary School had message for Central Devon MP Mel Stride when he paid a visit last week – ‘There’s a climate emergency and it’s time to act now!’

He had come to see how the school had managed during the past 18 months of Covid, and while he was there the pupils handed him an oversized card, made up of artwork highlighting the climate crisis.

Among the urgent messages it contained were: ‘The clock is ticking and the climate is still changing; We need ACTIONS not WORDS!’ and ‘Think of all the lives that are at stake.

They have also produced several more cards which will be posted to the Prime Minister and other Members of Parliament this week.

Mel pledged to do all he could when attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) in Glasgow in November and talked about the importance of all parties coming together to take meaningful action.

Mel said the past year or so had been a difficult one for schools and their pupils, but he fund a real sense of positivity among the staff and governors.

He felt that this term is very different to the last academic year. The pupils were fully engaged with their learning and the school should be very proud of how it has handled the past 18 months.
