THREE cyclists and a woman on a mobility scooter, along with her dog, created history by becoming the first to cross the bridge above the River Teign at Newton Abbot's Town Quay.
The £1.1 million steel-cable stay bridge is to be officially opened by Cllr Jerry Brook, the chairman of Devon County Council, on Friday, March 8, but it was brought into public use at 1pm on Monday, after the finishing touches were completed.
An amazing structure, it has created a link from the town quay to a newly-constructed footpath on the other side of the river which runs alongside the Newton Abbot Racecourse to the Hackney Marshes Nature Reserve, Kingsteignton
