Teign Corinthian Yacht Club's dinghy sailors completed the final races of the Late Autumn series at Coombe Cellars in bright conditions.

Looking incongruous in cold weather kit, but with sunglasses for the brilliant low sun, the competitors were kept waiting for the lightest of zephyrs, which just about arrived.

Saturday's racing was curtailed when the promised breeze came and then died away to leave more sailors retiring then finishing the hastily shortened course.

In the Handicap class, the Phantom sailed by John Bower was first until he drifted on to the marker buoy, thus giving the victory to Garry Phare in his RS300.

The rest were beaten by the ebbing tide.

This allowed Phare to confirm his place at the top in the series and take the President's Bowl.

Among the Solos, Graham Thursfield set the pace, but lost his way on the return upriver to allow John Davey to take the lead and go on to win. Second was Peter Hearne, followed by Thursfield.

Deja vu on Sunday. More in hope then anticipation, the sailors attempted to race, but it quickly became hopeless in the fading air.

Ant Robinson was well away at the start in his Solo, until he lost out on the return leg of the course. Davey kept up the pressure and somehow kept moving forward to eventually take the honours on the first lap, when no-one was able to finish the race proper. Hearne was the only other finisher.

In the end, James Stevenson and Davey tied on 20 points, but Stevenson takes the appropriately named Ebbtide trophy as he had six firsts against Davey's five.

Winter visitors from Dittisham SC, Sue Mortimer and Thomas Goodall in an Enterprise, were the only finishers in the Handicap race.

The annual Teign Corinthian YC Christmas Regatta, complete with mince pies, is on Saturday, December 20 at 11am, the following day at noon and concludes on January 1 at 9am.
