CHARITIES in Kingsteignton have benefited to the tune of a total of £5,500 from the proceeds of this year's ram roast fair.

Cheques were handed out to the causes supported by the fair at its annual meeting.

Chairman John Stacey said this year's fair had exceeded all expectations; an estimated 6,500 people attended.

He said: 'Despite the fact we had some high costs this year, the total we were able to donate to charities was an increase of 67 per cent, which is absolutely superb.

'It's far to say this year's event was an unqualified success and that's down to the volunteers and committee and the support of Kingsteignton residents and businesses.'
