Judo enthusiasts from Teignbridge judo clubs – Ashburton, Moretonhampstead, Dawlish and Newton Abbot – gathered with their families to recognise the year's achievements.

Attributes such as etiquette and perseverance were rewarded along with skill awards like breakfalling and competition.

Instructor Steven Walter said: 'Annual awards are not just about the winners, but the whole club. Without them we could not recognise those who have achieved that bit more. Congratulations to all students; we've had a great year.'

Award winners were: Pupil of the Term – Alex Jeffs, Sam McCarthy, Toby Searle, George Fradd and Harvey Ironside.

Breakfaller of the Year – Oscar Walters, Noah Chasteau, Molly Loftus, Jessica Pugh and Yelena Allton.

Competitor of the Year – Tom Roberts, Oliver Burgess, Alex Woodgates, Max Henwood and Kayleigh Zab.

Spirit of Judo – Finn Brinkley, Melanie Allton, Rachel Duncan, Benny Whitehead, India Nash.

Effort Award – Tom Gregory, Ciara Grout, Patrick Harriott, Ryan Harvey and Nat Bonfield.

Etiquette Award – Megan Pearson, Erin Ayliffe, Christopher Morgan, Sam Thompson and Chloe Biggin.

Perseverance Award – Morgan Hill, Joe Manning, Luke Richards, Leon Sant-Jennings and Luke Coombe.

Most Improved Player – Sadie Harriott, Jake Ayliffe, John Hawken, Kieran Tucker and Alex Muir.

Pupil of the Year – Charlie Taylor, Ben Stevens, Mitchell Osborne, Natasha Mallin and Caitlin Rawcliffe.

Senior Student Award – Kevin Frediani.
