PLAN Teignbridge, the 20-year vision to create thousands of jobs and build more than 12,400 homes, has formally been adopted by the district council.

The move at Forde House, Newton Abbot, on Tuesday brought to an end years of 'planning by appeal' whereby developers chanced their arms on projects in the knowledge that without planning policies in place they were likely to win.

There were last minute attempts by detractors to reject the plan, among them Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Alan Connett who urged members to vote against adoption.
