WORK is underway on plans for regeneration in Dawlish.
The Urban Renewal plans are being put together by various groups in the town alongside consultants.
An update on progress was given to town councillors.
Project ideas are being put together as part of Devon County Council’s plans, working with councillors and stakeholders in eight towns to put ‘conditions in place’ for future investment and growth.
Six areas have been identified as ways to progress the regeneration of Dawlish.
The ideas for economic regeneration and employment include investment in Shutterton industrial estate, identifying skills gaps, delivering training and investing in premises.
The proposals also look into deprivation and social mobility and have suggested providing vocational training.
Housing is a further project which recommends integrating new housing with communication, notice boards, cycling routes and walking paths.
The plans also look at the ‘public realm’ which supports independent shops, encouraging pedestrian movement through the town centre and coach drop off points.
A joint plan with Teignmouth to provide a park and ride facility to link with the Teign Estuary Trail is also recommended and discussions with Network Rail.
Consideration is also being made to housing affordability.
The regeneration board is due to report back to the town council in September.
The aim is to put projects together which can bid for government funding as soon as it is made available.
