BUCKFASTLEIGH remains in party mood after winning a David v Goliath battle about big business ambitions to establish a waste processing plant in the town.

The roar of cheers from relieved townsfolk was probably enough to register an earth-shaking reading of Richter scale proportions when news of the knife-edge victory came through last week.

Opponents of MVV's controversial proposals to establish the plant at Whitecleave Quarry raised £50,000 to fund their legal tussle at this summer's four-week public inquiry where the Devonport-based company challenged refusal of the enterprise.

But the joyous victors are not out of the woods yet – MVV has confirmed it may challenge planning inspector John Woolcock's finding against it.
