A former mayor of Kingsteignton, Keith Howard, has quit the town council.
Mr Howard, who served on the authority for five years – two of which he was mayor – blamed a clash of personalities and a lack of support from fellow councillors.
He said: 'I have enjoyed my time on the council, and not just as mayor, but I was beginning to feel like a tailor's dummy and it is not in my nature just to turn up at meetings.'
His decision was sparked after councillors narrowly voted in favour of delegating powers to individual committees, a move against which he voiced his strong objection.
