A TOP team of bellringers have a special occasion lined up in Teignmouth.

The Guild of Devonshire Ringers will be performing a peal on all eight bells at St James’ church on Friday, June 3, between 10am and 1pm to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Queen’s reign.

The performance requires considerable concentration by the ringers who must ring for three hours without stopping until they finish the piece of music known as a method.

These performances originated in England in the 17th century and are rung to mark important national events, such as Coronations and Jubilee celebrations and even more sombre events like the death of the Monarch.

A church spokesperson said: ‘Please join us in the church to listen to and watch the ringing, find out more about this traditional and unique team activity and enjoy coffee and cake and celebrate this special day with us.’
