TRIBUTES have been paid to a Teignmouth centenarian who was a staunch supporter of the resort’s lifeboat.

Marjorie Whittington, a popular figure in the town, lived for many years at Royal Court and more recently at a local care home where she died at the grand age of 100 last month.

Her husband John, known as Dick, died in 2002 – but Marjorie continued helping the charity at the lifeboat gift shop and supporting fundraising efforts.

She retired from the scene in 2005, but her fundraising continued.
