DRIVERS in and around Newton Abbot this week have found themselves at the mercy of a 'perfect storm' of roadworks.

Some journey times have more than doubled and a number of routes have been gridlocked.

Every major road in and out of town has been subjected to engineering projects requiring total or partial closures, lane restrictions, temporary traffic lights and stop-go boards.

Among the problems have been the ongoing construction of the South Devon Link Road and creation of the Penn Inn flyover.

Added to that has been the four-month closure of Decoy Road, a partial closure of Coach Road and the creation of a new junction at Hele Park on the Ashburton Road.
