Pupils at Rydon Primary School, Kingsteignton, have noticed a world of difference after taking part in a cultural arts week. Youngsters in each year group selected a different world culture to study and planned a number of activities linked to food, dancing, music and art. Cultural champions from the Polish, Chinese and Jamaican communities popped in throughout the week and pupils in the reception year tasted Indian food provided by chefs at The Eastern Eye restaurant, Newton Abbot, who also helped to develop the youngsters' understanding of the Diwali festival. Devon's home-grown culture was not ignored in the journey of discovery with Year 1 pupils inviting their parents to enjoy a traditional cream tea and country dancing. 'The week has been well supported by parents and has been a memorable occasion for all pupils and staff,' said headteacher Sally Maunder. 'The atmosphere in school has been tremendous and the children have reacted with excitement and enthusiasm to all the different learning opportunities being offered to them.'
