Teign School, Kingsteignton, staff member Zoe Brodie is preparing to run this year's Virgin London Marathon in support of Get Kids Going, a charity that provides wheelchairs of all types for disabled youngsters.
She is also raising cash for Newton Abbot Swimming Club after it helped boost the confidence of her 13-year-old son Connor and took him to county-level competitions.
Mrs Brodie, 37, and a sixth form support worker, is taking part with personal fitness trainer Jason Searle, 40.
Both are from Kingsteignton and decided to compete in the 26.2 miles endurance run while out training.
'Our story started with me taking a six-week fitness course with Jason,' said Mrs Brodie.
'We would run on a Wednesday evening and Jason would cycle as he was getting his fitness back slowly after a year-long illness. On one of these runs Jason said his goal for 2011 would be back to a fitness level that he could run the London Marathon.
