An ambitious project to transform the outside space at Hennock Primary School will be given a boost thanks to the legendary Hennock Barn Dance, which takes place early next month.
Organised by the Hennock Primary School Parent, Teachers and Friends Association (PFTA), the event takes place in a real cattle barn at Hillary and Keith Harvey’s Beechleigh Farm from 6pm on Saturday October 4.
The night promises music, laughter and plenty of dancing as renowned ceilidh band ‘Spinach for Norman’ returns to fill the barn with lively traditional tunes, while caller Pam keeps everyone, young and old, moving in time. ‘With a BBQ serving local meats and veggie options, a well-stocked bar, and a grand draw with prizes donated by local businesses, it’s set to be a true community celebration,’ said Alison Wonnacott from the PFTA.
Proceeds from the event, which is the PTFA’s biggest and most important of the year, will go towards a project to transform Hennock Primary School’s garden, preschool area and playground. The PFTA, with input from teachers and pupils, hopes to create a welcoming and inspiring outdoor space for all ages, helping to attract new pupils, strengthen the school’s future and give children a safe, stimulating environment to learn and play. The PFTA is also looking for local business support to bring this project to fruition.
This year has seen big changes for Hennock Primary School with a new, shared headteacher with Widecombe-in-the-Moor and smaller classes. However, the school is looking forward to a bright future, focusing on its rural roots, strong sense of community and the unique opportunities it offers local children.
