A NEW school hall and classrooms for Shaldon Primary School is to be included in the high priority list for next year, subject to government funding, Monday's Devon County Council executive was told.
But there is disappointment that the long-awaited works will not be included in this year's programme.
County Cllr David Cox, who represents Teign Estuary, told the executive he was 'bitterly disappointed' that Shaldon was not included in this year's programme.
Chairman of the school's governors, Leon Winston, and headteacher Francis Moule, attended the meeting to lobby for the school.
Devon County Council has received beacon status for road safety, but 'schoolchildren are having to make daily dangerous walk along the busy main road to the school hall,' Cllr Cox told the committee.
Cllr Cox told the executive that Shaldon was a nationally-recognised centre of educational excellence that gave many children a start in life.
'But it is not achieving its full potential, because it's constrained, held back, by its accommodation,' he said.
