Pupils of The Wendy Sandercock Academy of Dance, Newton Abbot, have excelled in the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance modern and tap examinations. More than half the 30 pupils who entered gained a grade A and the remainder achieved a grade B. Royal Academy Ballet examinations held at the end of last term also proved successful for the dance school, with half its pupils gaining a distinction and half gaining a merit. Abigail Hum won The Alan Hooper Cup for the highest mark in ballet. Mr and Mrs Hooper, of Kingsteignton, parents of the late Alan Hooper, who was the director of The Royal Academy of Dance, presented the cup to the school. Mrs Hooper has died and will be missed by the school.
