A CRACKDOWN on dog foulers along the Teignmouth Back Beach has been announced.

Teignbridge Council is acting after complaints and warned culprits they face a £75 fine.

Now special attention is being paid to the beach with extra staff on duty to try and catch owners who allow their pets to mess there.

'The Back Beach is popular with dog walkers in the winter, but sadly an irresponsible few are failing to pick up after their pet,' said Tracey Higgs, the leisure and resorts manager.

'We keep a close eye on all our resorts and will be taking action against anybody who does not scoop the poop.

'It's disappointing that some anti-social owners act in this way – there really is no excuse.

'We are giving fair warning that we are on the lookout and would remind everybody in the area they can report dog fouling and other environmental crimes via our freephone environmental hotline – 0800 328 6402.'
