Missing some regular forwards through injury did not help Ramblers' cause at Ilfracombe, but despite the defeat, the team played well.

From the whistle the visitors looked determined – Darren Greep was stopped just short of the try line and a drop goal attempt from full back Greg Robinson fell just short.

A bounce in Ilfracombe's favour saw the home team first on the score board, but two penalties kicked with precision by Ramblers' fly half Steve Chapple and a Robinson drop goal saw the visitors ahead.

However, despite the Ramblers pack showing immense discipline, Ilfracombe scored a converted try to lead 14-9 at the break.

The heat took its toll in the second half second half and within ten minutes both teams were down to 14 men after two yellow cards were shown.

There were no more points for Ramblers, though both Angus Cann and Luke Collings went close.

lfracombe pressed on and added a further penalty two tries to their tally, to leave Buckfastleigh disappointed at the 29-9 final score.

On a positive note, the Ramblers youngsters are starting to come in to their own and are gaining more confidence with every game. Wingers Matt Symes and Matt Bowen, and centres Martin Tarasuke and Dan Partridge all look fearless and fierce in their tackling, and show great speed when they have the chance to run.

Two new signings this year, brothers Michael and Luke Monnington, are proving to be a great asset to the team, showing their force in the pack at second row and flanker. They joined Ramblers' more experienced players Steve Leibrick, Angus Cann and Luke Collings in the front row, with Phil May at second row.

Ed Lamb continues to well play at scrum half, but it was number eight Charlie Dixon who was man of the match.

Tomorrow, Buckfastleigh welcome New Cross, kick-off 3pm.
